Haute Dog Howl'oween

What says Halloween more than a pug in a bunny costume? Luckily, we'll never have to find out. Residents of the Flamingo South Beach trotted out their best and brightest doggie costumes last weekend for a heated competition, complete with a red carpet, food, drinks and music by DJ Supersede.

Listening with Ed Bell

Depending on the time of day WLRN, South Florida’s NPR affiliate, keeps us informed, entertained, amused and sane (there is no better tonic for rush hour traffic). Every Friday from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. it keeps us cultured as longtime radio producer and host Ed Bell brings us the South Florida Arts Beat. The weekly show merges arts and culture concerns from four counties. We stepped inside the booth with Bell.

Tune into 91.3 Fridays at 1 p.m. to catch South Florida Arts Beat.

Weekend Preview: Sail Away

MIami weekend
It's been a fast week around these parts - already Thursday and time to think weekend. From a billion dollar boat show to plenty of Halloween pre-gaming, the schedule confirms season is in full swing. Read on for highlights and check out our calendar for all the details.

Get Your Costume On

Halloween is officially one week away. That means lots of party planning, candy corn gorging and costume hunting. We chatted with Miami Beach local and ANK Swimwear and Agua de Coco designer Mirla Sabino (whose favorite costume was a flower-crowned leprechaun) to get a leg up on the costume planning.

Open House

Where do you draw the line between art and life?

Miami collectors Debra and Dennis Scholl probe the question every year by inviting an important contemporary art curator to hang their house. They literally strip the walls, turn over the keys and step aside. Each project inevitably produces its own vision, reactions and challenges (favorite pieces linger in storage, new objects create evening obstacles). Nothing is off limits.

This year, Manhattan curator Matthew Higgs, director of the White Columns Gallery, and British artist Jeremy Deller performed the honors. Step inside the project from start to finish and watch the line between life and art blur.

Visit more of the Scholls' collection at World Class Boxing, 170 NW 23rd Street, Miami, 305-438-9908.
