Hannah Montana

Hannah Montana
OMG, like for real, thousands of screaming tweeners will be taking over the American Airlines Arena tonight when the sensation known as Hannah Montana takes to the stage. On the Disney Channel, Miley Cyrus, the daughter of country crooner Billy Ray, plays a mild-mannered student who transforms into a superstar rocker simply by donning a blond wig. Well, that little show sparked a pop culture phenomenon that will grace the Magic City tonight. Concert tickets, which sold out within minutes of going on sale were ranging in price from $23.25 to $63.25, but have been being scalped for way more than that. We’ve seen them going for thousands of dollars. Local radio station Y-100 even held a special contest where they stuck a bunch of parents in a van parked outside the station. It was cramped quarters, but the one who held out the longest was rewarded with a pair of front row tickets. Oh, what parents will do for their kids.

So the Florida primary is finally here and what an interesting road it has been leading up to the Sunshine state's big day. In the past few weeks I have heard political analysts say Florida's vote doesn't matter. Than, I have heard them say it does, and than later, it doesn't again. Regardless of what's being said (the latest buzz is Florida's vote is major for the GOP), voters are turning out in record numbers to make their voices heard. So get out and vote if you haven't already. I'm going during my lunch break.

Of course we'll be talking politics on DayBreak. Coming up later this week Miami Beach Mayor Matti Bower will join us on the set. We'll also hear Hindu chanting by yogi Loren Russo. I have previewed some of her work and all I can say is I am a major fan. Have a great day. See ya soon.

Notes from the production field...

Mood on the set this week is super upbeat & we’re all excited about our guests and hilarious demos. We had as much fun off set as we did on with Emilio Estefan, Dr Agatston and Barton G, who all seem to know each other - the Miami world shrinks by the day.

End of an Era

It saw the 1972 Dolphins go undefeated, Don Shula and Dan Marino win countless games and even the University of Miami win a championship or two. Now, it’s time to say farewell to the orange stadium that for years was the only place in Miami to see a football game. On Saturday, the Orange Bowl hosted its last event ever. Some of the greats were signing autographs and the Miami Hurricanes played and won a flag football game against the Dolphins. The score was 65 to 51. Some fans that wanted to take home a piece of history began pulling off the seat covers or whatever else they could fit in their bags. Miami Police even confiscated some of the memorabilia. If you missed the fond farewell, check out this cool slideshow of all the festivities.
