Plum TV sat down with Jonathan Tisch, chairman
& CEO of Loews Hotels, co-chairman of the Loews Cooperation and host of "Open Exchange - Beyond the Boardroom with Jonathan Tisch," a series of
one-on-one interviews with America’s preeminent CEOs and business
people on Plum TV and CNBC.
The Loews Miami Beach Hotel was recently named Corporate Citizen of the Year by the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce. Tisch will be accepting the award at the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce 86th Annual Gala this Saturday. We spoke with him about this honor.
PLUM: Loews Miami Beach is being honored as Corporate Citizen of the Year, how do you feel about this honor?
TISCH: I am honored and excited to be accepting this award on behalf of more the 800 members of the Loews team. In December, we will be celebrating our 10th anniversary, and we cherish our role as a member of the Miami Beach community, one of the most dynamic destinations in the country.
PLUM: How do you see The Loews fitting into the Miami Beach landscape?
TISCH: When we opened, we saw the opportunity to really send a message to meeting planners, executives, travel agents and travelers that South Beach is a dynamic destination and was “back” as a destination. We also wanted to set a standard as far as amenities and service – something we could be proud of. Also, something Miami Beach would be proud of. This recognition says to our team that our effort has been appreciated. We work together to ensure that the hotel is successful in Miami Beach.
PLUM: What are some of your favorite things to do when you’re in Miami?
TISCH: The first thing I do when I arrive at The Loews is go for a run on the beach. I really do look forward to that. I also like walking around the pool deck and listening to what guests have to say, about the hotel, about South Beach. We are so proud to have worked with the city. I also enjoy looking at the new properties, seeing what other visionaries are doing in the industry.
PLUM: What are your favorite restaurants?
TISCH: Joe Allen’s, Joe’s Stone Crab and Prime 112, I try to hit all of them at least once when I’m in town.
PLUM: Can you talk about your involvement with Plum?
TISCH: It really has been an honor to be part of the programming over the past few years. “Beyond the Boardroom” gives viewers the chance to eavesdrop between two CEOs such as Clive Davis, Steve Ross, Mort Zuckerman and Keith Reinhard – extraordinary individuals that have come from modest upbringing. The show migrated from Plum to CNBC. It was exciting to take Plum programming to a national network. I admire Plum for its original programming that is deeply rooted in the community.
