I Dream of Dive Bars

Sand Bar Lounge

Miami Beach isn't always glitz and glamour. Sometimes you just want a cheap drink, some good conversation and no distractions. Enter the dive bar. We love the dive bar. Here are a few of some of our favorite local establishments.

Club Deuce Bar & Grill
222 14th Street, Miami Beach; 305-531-6200
Step into Club Deuce and step back into the heyday
of 1980s Miami Vice. Rumored to have once been a cocaine
speakeasy, the place embodies the word "dive". The staff isn't
friendly, nor are the patrons. But, you can count on cheap, unlimited drinks.

Free Spirits Sports Cafe
100 21 Street, Miami Beach; 305-532-5399
Located just steps from the sand, this place is great before, during
and after a day in the sun. Bar fare is above average (we love the fish & chips) and the patrons
are usually a diverse mix of locals and tourists.

Ted’s Hideaway
124 2nd St; Miami Beach; 305-532-9869
Ted's is South Beach's answer to Cheers. Locals come to
play pool, exploit the great drink specials and linger. Happy hour begins at noon
daily, lasts until 7 p.m., then picks up again from 1 a.m. to 3 a.m. Nine hours of discounted happiness in one day - can you handle it?

The Abbey Brewing Company
1115 16th Street, Miami Beach; 305-538-8110
Small, dark and charming, the Abby is a beer lover's dream. The menu includes four specially brewed house beers and
ten guest draft beers. Extra bonus - it's open from 1 p.m. to 5 a.m. 365 days a year - but who's counting?

Sandbar Lounge
6752 Collins Ave, Miami Beach; 305-865-1752
Located in North Beach, Sandbar has cheap drinks, a wide
selection of beer, pool tables and great rock & 80s music. The place is typically
filled with locals and is a holiday hotspot, with its tradition
of cooking meals to celebrate with those with no place to go (other than
the bar, that is).

Zeke’s Roadhouse
625 Lincoln Rd, Miami Beach; 305-672-3118
Nestled amongst tourist shops and Lincoln Road restaurants, Zeke's is a haven for many a thirsty Beach-goer. This dive can be a little
hard to spot and is cash only, but it serves up excellent Lincoln Road
people watching without the Lincoln Road prices.

What about "On the Rocks"?

What about "On the Rocks"? Also in the 71st Street neighborhood. You can't get more dive than that....or recently I went to Polar Bar on Lincoln Road. It looks like they haven't finished the bar yet and the menu is six feet tall and hanging on the door - makes reading easy when you've had one too many:)

Good question, Jen. We will

Good question, Jen. We will discuss this later over drinks at the ONE HUNDRED other bars that wouldn't fit on this list! :)

Haha - for sure:) I think

Haha - for sure:) I think we need to do some more research on this topic. Maybe there should be a Top 10 Dive Bars list.

Can you sugarcoat this just a bit more? Honestly I am fed up the kind of payola that is obviously at play here. Yes we all are quite sure this "jluttman" got her fair share of rewards after she bequeathed us with such adulatory commentary. I'm thinking maybe a vodka/tonic or two.
