Laughter, education, air conditioning – story time is a parent’s dream come true. We bookmarked a few readings around town.
- Check
out story time at North Miami Public Library and Wednesday nights will
never be the same. Launched about 20 years ago to encourage family
interaction, the 60-minute readings feature weekly themes like Curious George and Dr. Seuss. North Miami Public Library, North Miami; 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.; Free; 305-891-5535; northmiamifl.gov/community/library.
- Replace
weekend cartoons with story time at the Books & Books Reading Room.
Every Saturday morning, kids three and up listen to 30 minutes of new
and old favorites like Leo Lionni's Nicolas, Where Have you Been?
Then at 10:30, they round out the hour with arts and crafts. Books
& Books, Coral Gables; 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.; Free;
305-442-4408; booksandbooks.com.
- Alternately,
sleep in and stop by out Barnes & Noble’s Saturday afternoon
readings. Themed 60-minute sessions are divided into 30 minutes of
reading (past titles include Peter Rabbit and Duck on a Bike) and 30 minutes of crafts. & Noble, Aventura; 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.; Free; 305-935-9770; barnesandnoble.com.
- Get
creative with ArtCenter of South Florida’s fall sessions for kids aged
four to eight. Children will enjoy a reading while parents get lessons
in bookmaking. Then together, they create their own stories and
illustrations. ArtCenter South Florida, Miami Beach; 9:00 a.m. to 12:00
p.m.; $5 per child, per session; RSVP 305-674-8278 ext. 15; artcentersf.org.
