Plum on TV Channel 5

April 1: The Sporting Life

Sport is life & life is sport this week in Miami Beach. We've had a busy few days catching all the Miami action.

We hit the tennis courts with John Roddick, Andy Roddick's brother & head coach; Sam Querrey, up and coming tennis star; the Bryan Brothers, leading doubles champions, and Ken Meyerson, super agent to the pros.

Come Sunday, we headed northwest to Wellington and stomped on the divots at the International Polo Club in Wellington, where the Stanford US Open kicked off this Sunday.

We also spent much of last week at Winter Music Conference - and have the battle scars and wrist bands to prove it. Looking forward to lots of editing this week - we've got lots of fresh content heading your way.

The DayBreak set is also abuzz - recent guests include:

March 18: March Madness

Busy times roll on down here as we battle near-record-breaking heat and oddly strong winds. Is it March already?

Lots to cover - we finished up our coverage of the 25th Annual Miami International Film Festival, toured Little Havana with Mercedez Abal, then caught all the action at the 30th Annual Calle Ocho Festival with Michael in Miami. Fresh back from paternity leave (an official welcome to Zuri Johnson!), producer Marlon Johnson brings us an insider tour with chef Michael Lomanaco at last month's Best of the Best during the Wine & Food Festival.

Things were equally as busy on DayBreak, where music, wine & food stole the show.

  • Cesar Becerra & Christopher Pasquarella bring the (delicious!) Frankie's Pizza legend to set
  • Badrut's Place mixologist Alex Locecere blends fresh fruit and spirits into an extremely tempting cocktail
  • Life Project brings us live tracks
  • James Hester & Roni DeLuz, authors of The Martha's Vineyard Diet Detox, tell us how to keep in shape
  • Laura Cullen and Bob Mignola of Clarke's Miami Beach bring cabbage, Guinness and lots of St Patty's Day treats.
  • Cantina 27 owner Luca Laborante brings bruschetta, calamari and more to the Standard
  • Donna & Hunter Reno give us the ins and outs of the Slow Food Movement
  • No Mercy sings its signature "Where Did You Go (My Lovely)?"

March 10: Monday Already?

Roughly half the Plum MB crew is out sick today - and we're guessing it's from over-exhaustion. We've been running around like madman capturing all Miami's March action. Jonathan sat down with Patricia Clarkson & Chris Cooper to discuss their new film Married Life, KIrmaya chatted Bob Marley and Africa United with Danny Glover, Michael hit Ocean Drive for Winter Party 2008 and Tommy and Patrick journeyed northwest to rock out at Langerado.

We're digging in for an even busier few weeks - Sea Trade, Calle Ocho, Winter Music Conference, Sony Ericsson Open and Autism Week are all on the calendar.

The DayBreak set has also been abuzz with guests. Last week we visited with Laura DePasquale, one of 15 female master sommeliers in the world; Michelle Bernstein, chef/owner of Michy's; jazz legend Al Di Meola; two members of the cast of Spamalot and others. On tap for next week? Bands No Mercy and Life Project; Eddie Carbone, director of the World Golf Championship's Doral Open; celebrity life coach Rob Mack and others.

This week also marks the kick off our our upcoming Lunch at Joe's series. We're filming a pilot this Friday with Stu Blumberg, president of the Greater Miami & The Beaches Hotel Association, philanthropist Adrienne Arsht, ESPN reporter Hank Goldberg and Sid Levin, former Florida Secretary of Commerce.

March 3: March is a Whirlwind

It's been a busy week here at channel 5 - March has arrived with a bang! We caught opening night of the Miami International Film Festival Thursday night; interviewed Patricia Clarkson & Chris Cooper about their new movie Married Life Friday morning; and hit the 15th Annual Winter Party Beach Party Sunday afternoon. Videos are all coming soon, in the meantime it’s time to relive last month’s Wine & Food Festival & Boat Show action.

Wine & Food Festival Fun

  • Champagne and sugar - does it get much better? We stopped by BubbleQ and Sugar Shack and sipped with Food & Wine editor Dana Cowin, chef Emeril Lagasse and Food Arts and Food & Wine founder Michael Batterberry.
  • Few things go better with fine wine and food than a hefty dose of satire. We got our quota from Anthony Bourdain and his Golden Clog Awards.
  • Bobby Deen took us on an insider tour of his mom Paula Deen's Poker Party at the Paris Theater.

Boat Show Inside & Out

  • This year's Yacht & Brokerage show featured over 500 boats ranging from 30 to 165 feet and $300,000 to $30 million. We went behind the scenes to film set-up (imagine ushering 500 yachts into the Indian Creek Waterway) then hit the fair with Debbie Davis, a vice president at Private Client Group.
  • Not to be outdone, the Miami International Boat Show, now celebrating its 67th year, showcased over 2,200 exhibitors throughout the city. We toured the sights with John Ward & Kim Hegel of Boston Whaler; Joe Cacopardo of Sea Ray; Dean Kurtz of Furuno USA; and Bryan Seti of Yahama.
Lots more to come soon - look for coverage of Winter Pary, Winter Music Conference, the Sony Ericsson Open, Autism Week and more.

DayBreak

We're two months into DayBreak, our daily morning show, and things are heating up. We're loving the Standard, the guests, the hosts and more. Jonathan, Lilaj, Jeff and Tristin have chatted with some of Miami's favorite locals and visitors - Laurent Tourondel & Ming Tsai, Emilio Estefan, Barton G, Susie Essman, DJ Irie, Mayor Matti Bower and more. DayBreak airs every day on Channel 5 at 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 am as well as online here.
