Art Basel 2007: Design District Dining

Art Basel | Satellite Fairs | Events | Artist Profiles | Collector Tours | Exhibitions

Art works up an appetite. Luckily, the Design District is a Basel epicurean's dream. Here's the lowdown on a few of our favorite places.

Charcuterie

3612 NE 2nd Ave, Miami; 305-576-7877
A favorite lunch spot for locals, this French restaurant is the perfect place to grab a sub or sandwich after a long day of gallery gazing. Make sure not to miss the fresh seafood.

Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink
130 N.E. 40th Street, Miami; 305-573-0658; www.michaelsgenuine.com
Basel or not, Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink is a must in Miami. Chef Michael Schwartz's (maybe you caught him on Top Chef Miami?) focus is on fresh, organic ingredients. Our advice? Go heavy on snacks and small plates (we like wood roasted sweet onion and chile chicken wings) and save room for the Key Lime Cheesecake Flan.

Sheba
4029 N. Miami Ave., Miami; 305-573-1819; www.shebamiami.com
Named for the legendary African Queen of Sheba, this Ethiopian favorite serves authentic vegetarian and carnivore-friendly dishes. We like assa wat and doro tibs and love eating with our hands (all meals are served with traditional injera bread). Word to the wise - Sheba features live music on the weekends - beautiful music, but loud enough to make conversation a virtual impossibility.

Brosia
163 NE 39th Street, Miami; 305-531-8700; brosiamiami.com
One of the district's newest additions, Brosia is scheduled to open December 13. Word on the street is that it is the food - and the sangria - are top
notch. Chef
Arthur Artiles, hails from Chispa in the Gables.
