Piggybacking off Cinco de Mayo, the Miami Modern architecture movement is launching Cinco de MiMo, a two-day festival celebrating the MiMo movement. Festivities kick off Friday night with a Frieda Kahlo look-alike contest, piñata cracking, snacks, cocktails and more at the Upper Eastside Gardens.
The weekend will feature bus tours, live music and a variety of activities themed around the event. The kick-off party starts at 7 p.m. at the Upper Eastside Garden, followed by dinner specials at chic eateries up and down the Biscayne Boulevard. The Herald has a rundown of specific eateries participating in the festival. Miami.com also has a nice feature.
Family activities centered around the event are a hula hoop contest for children, as well as a "Little Miss MiMo" pageant on Sunday at 3 p.m. (girls aged 4 - 7 yrs. can participate).
North Beach will also jump on the MiMo bandwagon this month, celebrating more than Cinco de MiMo. The North Beach neighborhood will dedicate an entire month to Miami Modern Architecture. Click here for the details.
