This weekend is all about Winter Music Conference. There’s so much to do, I’m barely touching the tip of the iceberg here. Indeed, most of the happenings really depend on your own personal preference in music and ambiance. However, there are a few things that are destined to be surefire hits. On Thursday, I highly recommend stopping by the Surfcomber Hotel and checking out Detroit’s Ritchie Hawtin and friends. Always a goodtime, Hawtin really knows how to work a crowd and it’s no wonder he is considered to be the DJs DJ. On Friday, make sure to stop by the Woodstock of electronic music, Ultra. There, you can check out any number of performers from electro clash superstars, The Bravery and Tommy Sunshine, to deep, dark, raver music like Rabbit in the Moon and Dynamix II. After that, make sure to stop by the Skam artist’s showcase at dek23. There you are sure to be astounded by the wicked turntable antics of DJ Ross One and DJ Irie. Saturday, you can hit up Ultra again and check out Carl Cox, or any of the other headliners that are sure to put on a spectacle of a performance. Sunday, you’d be remiss if you miss out on the happenings of the Shelborne, where Common and Jazzy Jeff will be closing out the festivities of the week. There’s plenty more to check out, but in my opinion these are some of the best. Till next week, see you at the bar.
