Heart of a Chef Weekend, an event benefiting the Florida Heart Research Institute is back for its second year. This year, in addition to Driven to Dine, the HOAC has added Heart of a Chef Festival, a myriad of heart-health related activities at Jungle Island including a Kid’s Korner, food and wine tastings, cooking demos, seminars and more.
“After the charitable success of last year’s Driven to Dine event, we decided to expand in 2008, offering something back to the community and furthering our mission to stop heart disease through research, education and prevention,” explains Florida Heart Research Institute Chief Executive Officer Kathleen DuCasse. “The Heart of a Chef Festival helps to meet the education and prevention aspects, while providing a day of fun for families and individuals.”
Saturday’s decadent Driven to Dine event kicks-off with a sunset cocktail party at legendary NFL Coach Don Shula’s Indian Creek home. The festivities continue at Jungle Island with the Heart of a Chef Festival on Sunday, April 27, from 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. The day will be jam packed with activities to heighten the awareness and knowledge of heart disease, prevention and heart healthy living.
Through the mission to stop heart disease through research, education and prevention, the Florida Heart Research Institute has been an independent, non-profit international leader in cardiovascular research and education for over 60 years, employing a unique blend of scientific, clinical and collaborative research. FHRI also strives to benefit the South Florida community by providing free community prevention services such as cardiac screening in underserved and underinsured areas, as well as educational programs to prevent heart disease for all segments of the population, including in the workplace.
