In this Magic City full of wondrous fun in the sun activities,
sometimes it can be a challenge just to hang out by a pool. There are
just so many options. Well, sit back, relax and order a mojito. With
this handy guide digitized into your Blackberry, you’ll know just where
you can find the best pool to bring the kids, or conversely, the best
place to see naked people. Whatever floats your raft—we’ve got you
covered.
Setai: 2001 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach; 305-520-6000; setai.com.
Sit by this Zen-like pool if you’re looking for your every whim to be
catered to. The service here is extraordinary and its lush tropical
surroundings, coupled with a long walk through the rock garden and
meditation waters, will have you relaxing way before you even put your
sun block on.
The Shelborne:1801 Collins Ave., Miami Beach; 305-531-1271; shelborne.com.
As with all things Art Deco, this oversized pool has a look to
it that’s all it’s own. Taking a dip in these waters will have you
reminiscing of the days of yesteryear. The irony is that in modern
times this pool has become a hub of youthful indiscretion.
Particularly, during Winter Music Conference, this pool is a favorite
with party promoters and swinging singles alike.
The Sagamore:1671 Collins Ave; Miami Beach, 305-535-8088; sagamorehotel.com
Like the Shelbourne, it’s totally possible to run into a naked person
or two at this pool. Well, at least if you were there when
world-renowned artist Spencer Tunick photographed 600 naked people
on-site. The Art Hotel, as it is sometimes referred to, is actually a
refined poolside experience that allows swimmers to work on their tans
while enjoying an artistic experience.
The Venetian Pool: 2701 De Soto Boulevard, Coral Gables; 305-460-5357; venetianpool.com
We would be remiss if we neglected to mention this concrete
lake nestled deep in the Gables behind pastel stucco walls and wrought
iron gates. The only pool included in the National Register of Historic
Places, the Venetian Pool features a Spanish fountain, three-story observation towers, cascading waterfalls and more.
Fontainebleau Miami Beach: 4441 Collins Ave, Miami Beach; 305-538-2000. fontainbleau.com
This place is at the bottom of our list because although synonymous
with Miami Beach and Police Academy 5. This pool, which would be the
best one for the kids, is closed for renovations until the summer of
’08. Still, with waterslides, caves, and more bars than we could count,
it's still a standard of chlorine lovers everywhere.
