Reader Review: Table 8

Readers are the best reviewers around town – you’re our eyes, ears and stomachs 24/7. Eat out, send us your thoughts and we'll spread the word. Steve Berry likes, but doesn't love the Table 8 Miami Spice experience.

For my first Miami Spice trip of 2007, I met up with a group over at Table 8 inside the Regent Hotel on South Beach. Our waiter came and passed out both regular and Miami Spice menus and I ordered a bottle of red wine for the table ('03 Latour Noir). He left and returned with bread, water, and wine, which was quite biblical.

We all decided on the Spice menu. I ordered the warm boucheron and really enjoyed it. The warm smoked goat cheese was served with some cool avocado slices and a balsamic roasted onion, which added moisture to the dry cheese. I thought the flavors worked well together and the presentation was solid.

For my entree, I ordered the skirt steak with avocado gremolata and crispy plantains. The steak was cooked to a nice medium rare as ordered and plantains were a fine addition. The avocado gremolata complimented the dish and also made for a nice transition from my appetizer. Overall the dish didn't blow me away, but it didn't leave me wanting more either.

Dessert was the best item of the night. I had the vanilla panna cotta, which was served with a not-too-sweet raspberry sauce that tasted wonderful when mixed with the vanilla. I could've had about 3 more of these and still wanted one more. All in all, I thought the dining experience at Table 8 was good, but nothing "wowed" me and made me want to come back again sometime soon. It was, well, good. With all the options these days, good doesn't really cut it anymore. It is nice to know that you can get a solid meal in a trendy atmosphere, so I’d recommend others give it a try and come to their own conclusions.
