SF Fishing Report
Picture: Captain Rich Smith

Captain Rich Smith has been seeing bones and permit all over Biscayne Bay of late. Large schools of permit are showing up inside Midnight Pass and on the snake leading into Caesar’s Creek. Cutter Bank has been the most consistent for bonefish. Fishermen staked off at Curtis Point reported seeing a few schools of tarpon heading south, but the fish were apparently not in an eating mood. Rich and his clients also had some fun the other day with lemon and blacktip sharks in the 5-9 foot range.

Lots of reds have been poking their tails out of the water recently on Snake Bite Flat in front of Flamingo. The snook and tarpon bite has been pretty consistent until about 10:30 in the morning in the creek mouths of Big Sable Creek and Little Shark River.

Chris Hunter at Worldwide Sportsman in Miami says anglers offshore are catching dorado up to 50 pounds on blue and white skirted ballyhoo and yellow and red combinations. The fish are coming off weedlines and surface debris in 600-1200 feet of water. Fishing for snapper should improve approaching this month’s full moon.

Fishing from the jetties remains very good for snook and tarpon, and anglers on the beaches are catching jacks and a few tarpon along with some cobia off the outside of the second reef.

The Cutter Canals (C100 series) remain consistent for peacock bass. Tamiami (C4) is also giving up some nice snook and the early morning bite for tarpon in Snake Creek (C9) has been consistent.

Check back every Wednesday for a new report and make sure to listen to Chris Hunter on the Florida Sportsman radio show on 1080 AM Saturday mornings at 7.
