South Florida Fishing Report

Fish 8
Surdna

The weather lately has been great for fishing. Biscayne Bay continued to produce some nice bonefish and permit for Captain Rich Smith this week. Hotspots included Burger King Flat, East Arsenicker Key, Midnight Pass and Porpoise Point.

Too much saltwater intrusion turned the fishing off in the backcountry, however, the bay side of Flamingo “has been on fire,” said the Captain.

Smith and his clients boated several snook over 30 inches and reds in the 23-35 inch range. They were working Snake Bite flat with gold spoons.

The calm warming conditions this week should bring tarpon…tarpon…and more tarpon.

Chris Hunter at Worldwide Sportsman reports Snapper Creek Canal (C2) has slowed down for peacocks, largemouth and snook. The C100 series (Falls Canal), Snake Creek (C9), and South New River (C11) have been “excellent.”

The Jetties are producing some nice tarpon and snook at night for anglers fishing Captain Hank Brown Hook-up lures. The ones that are tipped with shrimp and DOA Mullets.

The beaches continue to provide action for Pompano, snook, mackerel and the occasional cobia.

Sailfish, blackfin tuna, cobia, and dolphin are making up most of the catch offshore while deep dropping for snapper and grouper on the wrecks has been “very good” as well.

Check back every Wednesday for a new report and make sure to listen to Chris Hunter on the Florida Sportsman radio show on 1080 AM Saturday mornings at 7am.-Tee Clarkson
