Weekend Preview: Get Lost

Look out weekend ‘cause here we come, because weekends were made for fun.” As if the shady people in this sunny town needed another excuse to let it all hang out. It’s the last weekend of the year, people — so, let’s get ready to get a little (more) crazy. There will be plenty of time next year for resolutions, in the meantime, don’t miss our online calendar for a complete rundown of the happenings around town this weekend.

Thursday

Reach for the stars and maybe bowl a lucky strike or two at the inaugural "Stars & Strikes" celebrity bowling event at Lucky Strike Lanes at 7 p.m. or maybe just relax in the Gables with the intimate poolside sounds at the Biltmore Unplugged. Is that too slow for your taste? Then start celebrating the New Year early by getting funky at Set nightclub’s Rotten Apple Party on Thursday — a South Beach standard.

Friday

Stimulate your artistic side at MOCA while listening to steel drum artist, Doug Walker, play some beboppin’ jazz, salsa, reggae and R&B. Do you know where the “Fifth Avenue of the South” is? You will when you take the ninety-minute walking tour down Lincoln Road. Didn’t get enough of Basel? Catch this last chance to check out emerging Mexican artists, local painter David Leroi and graffiti artist Gustavo Oviedo at the Art Basel-BASE Annex.

Saturday

Get behind the scenes at the Carnival Center with their weekly tour. Parade through the streets of Coral Gables at the Junior Orange Bowl Parade. While you’re in the Gables, head over to The Miracle Mile and stroll through the numerous boutiques and galleries.

Sunday

Weather permitting, why not grab a book and take in some sun on the beach? After that you’ll be ready to begin your New Year’s Celebration early at the Catalina Hotel for Happy Zoo Year. Then, grab the pooch and check out the puppy friendly party Dogs Gone Wild at China Grill.
